THE UNIT

imaging departmentThe Wellington Hospital's Diagnostics and Imaging Department is one of the most up to date in the country and the largest of its kind in the UK private sector. We are constantly working to improve and expand our services and by utilising investment in the most current equipment and technologies. We can deliver outstanding Imaging services which speed up the time from diagnosis to treatment.

We have a full range of state of the art equipment including receptionthe fastest 64-slice CT scanner available, two MRI scanners, a full range of X-Ray machines, Ultrasound equipment and Interventional Radiology facilities.

We are constantly working to improve and expand our services and have recently invested in a film-less system so doctors can view scans and X-rays etc on- line. This will speed up the time from diagnosis to treatment and end delays caused by mislaid X-Rays.

We have a team of 20 consultant radiologists, many of whom hold senior positions in some of London's renowned teaching hospitals, who are on hand to interpret and report on the results of a patient's scan, X-Ray or Ultrasound. They are backed by highly qualified specialist radiographers and nurses and a back office team who prepare reports of each diagnostic investigation.

The department is available 24 hours for clinical emergencies and there is fast access for our In-Patient Service which is available between 8 am and 6 pm Mondays to Fridays.

In addition to the main Imaging department, the Clinical Imaging and Research Centre (CIRC) at the Wellington Hospital has just undergone a £2.5M refurbishment programme to enhance their research capabilities. This project is partly supported by the British Cardiac Research Trust (BCRT). The new department has the first London-based Dual source CT scanner (Siemens Definition) arguably the best CT scanner on the market for superior quality Cardiac CT studies. Also situated in this unit is a state-of-art Hybrid Scanner (the Siemens Symbia-6) used for Nuclear Medicine studies that combines both isotope technology (gamma camera SPECT) and X-Ray based CT technology on the same machine. It can therefore combine functional information from the isotope scan (3D-SPECT scan) with structural information from the CT scan (performed with X-Rays).

This is the first hybrid SPECT-CT facility in the UK private sector and along with the Dual source CT scanner is led by a highly experienced team of Cardiologists & Radiologists.
